Why a Death Doula?

What is an end-of-life doula?

An end-of-life doula is a non-medical professional who provides companionship, emotional support, and practical guidance to individuals and families during the dying process. I work alongside your medical team — they focus on the body, and I focus on the person and the people around them.

The healthcare system at end of life can be hard to navigate. I help families understand their options, coordinate across providers, and feel less overwhelmed by the logistics so they can focus on what matters most — being present with their loved one.

Background

Training & Credentials
University of Vermont End-of-Life Doula Professional Certificate
Certified Doula, DNT Network
M.A. Psychology, Pepperdine University
B.S. Communication Studies, Northwestern University (cum laude)
Research, UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior
Volunteer, The Elizabeth Hospice, San Diego

I came to this work after a career in communications — network news at CBS and ABC, and leading teams at TikTok, Meta, and Korn Ferry. Those years were spent helping people say difficult things clearly, under pressure, when it mattered most to get it right. That turns out to be much of what this work asks for.

My psychology training gives me a grounded understanding of grief and resilience. As an Italian citizen who studied abroad in Italy, Japan, France, and the Czech Republic, I have a deep respect for how different cultures care for their families at end of life.

I live in North County San Diego with my husband, two kids, and our dog.

What I offer

Companionship — being present when family can't be there. Help navigating the healthcare system — understanding options, coordinating with providers, asking the right questions. And for those who want it, support with legacy work, life reflection, and meaning-making.

How I can support you

Threshold Care provides non-medical support. I work alongside your hospice and medical teams, not in place of them. I can be engaged at any point — whether someone is entering hospice, planning ahead, or a family seeking support after a loss.

  • Guidance for family members on what to expect
  • Collaborative coordination with hospice and palliative care teams
  • Working respectfully alongside clinical providers

04

Grief Coaching for Families

Support for families in the weeks and months following a loss.

Grief coaching is non-clinical support — it is not psychotherapy. If clinical care would serve you better, I'll say so and help you find it.
